Welcome
The Atascocita Volunteer Fire Department can help you save a life by teaching you CPR and preparing you for the worst.  We teach American Heart Association Classes which gives you a certification card good for 2 years.

Heart attack, drowning, electric shock, and other problems may cause a victim's heart to stop pumping blood.  This is called cardiac arrest.  Studies show that effective CPR right away improves survival from cardiac arrest.  Most cardiac arrests happen outside the hospital, where bystander CPR is really important.  You can make a difference, and the first step is learning CPR.  You never know when you might need to use the CPR skills you learn for someone you know or even one of your loved ones.

In these classes you will also learn how to save someone from choking and learn how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

Choking is more common than you think.  Choking occurs when an object or large piece of food becomes lodged in the throat blocking the airway.  The person cannot speak or move any air.  If they do not recieve help immediately, they can rapidly deteriorate and go into cardiac arrest.

The AED is a device that provides an electical shock to someone in cardiac arrest.  Studies show that effective CPR and the rapid use of an AED can greatly increase the chance of survival from cardiac arrest.  AED's can be found in many public places, such as airports, schools, and sports complexes.
